3D - 2

How does manufacturers make 3D or 360° degree view of their product and publish on their website?

Some manufacturers allow me to view 3D or 360° degree of their physical product. For some of them, their website use Flash to display it. How they do it?

  1. I forget what it's called (or it might be a specific part of Flash, or something), but there's this program that allows you to stitch together photos from different angles in order to create a 3-D image that you can also rotate... My mom uses it at work - I'll try to remember to ask her what it is later & then I'll update this. =)
  2. There are specialized products for 360 product photography like Ortery offers but they are very expensive. There are also agencies that offers this service like 3DRev.com. If you have a small number of products is cheaper to go with an agency like 3DRev.com but if you have a large number like thousands it's more convenient to go with Ortery. And you can also do it in house but you need skills, time and money for equipment. The process is not that complicated but you need knowledge and patience. At first you need to setup a rotating table and then take 18 or 36 pictures from different angles depending on the quality you need. Then you need to process images (cropping, background change, etc.) depending on your needs. Then you need to build the flash viewer or hire someone to do it. After that assemble flash movies with the pictures or products and finally insert the flash movie on your site.
