How is the core duo chip at 3d rendering?

I remember a friend telling me that you could render at real time with a high-end g4 mac. Now that macs are moved on to core-duo chips, I wanted to know if they can do the same/better/worst for 3d rendering?

1. most 3d rendering is done by the video card not the processor, but yes the duel cores are better at all tasks even single threaded ones because the other tasks that the OS dose in the background can be switched to the second core
