Can you import Models from 3ds Max to Maya?

I am going to be getting Maya soon and i was just wondering if I could export my 3d models from 3ds Max to Maya. I want this because I've heard it is easier for rigging, if not please tell me.

1. Without ever even had tried it, I would say yes. Maya is owned by AudoDesk. If not the 3Ds file format, then one of the others that 3DS Max is capable of exporting. 3Ds retains the spotlights, the textures and the camera with the model -- something you might NOT want in Maya. Maya offers a trial version of their software. Why not try it?
