- I'm sorry but, simply, there is no easy 3D animation program. There are Maya3D ad 3D Max Studio which are powerful animations programs available to the public -- but they are generally not cheap. Blender is a FOSS program which was originally the in-house software of an animation house in Amsterdam when everybody did in-house programs, but it is not simple and like the others takes a LOT of memory. How much memory? Generally it is run on Linux. I'm sure I can get people telling me they use it fine on Windows or the Mac, but if you look at the proof of concept films Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny: http://www.elephantsdream.org http://www.bigbuckbunny.org you will find that they were rendered on a network of Ubuntu computers. In addition dyne:bolic. a media-centered live cd provides documentation for setting up a render farm as they are called here: http://spot.river-styx.com/viewarticle.php?id=12 (Incidently it is worth mentioning the site of the live cd itself: http://www.dynebolic.org It is a very strange but very well engineered distribution which is not as easy to use as it seems but every bit as powerful. The thing is that Linux has a smaller memory footprint than Windows or the Mac, and it is better for networking. That means more memory is available for putting your films together and believe me, 3D programs will use all of it. Games used to be done on Unix networks before Linux mostly displaced it and movies are usually done on Linux networks. That's why -- because it puts its resources out there for the projects instead of keeping huge amounts to run itself and phone home to ask whether it's a pirated program. But the point is not that you SHOULD use Linux, it's that you need a very very good computer and no matter what you do it is not going to be easy.
