Is there anyway to Make Blender 3D less choppy?
I've modelled maybe 5 objects that are mainly planes and cubes and the navigation around the scene is extremely choppy. Is there anything I can do to enhance performance? Or do i need a new computer? I have 256mb dedicated graphics with 3.0ghz HT single core.

- The 'dedicated' graphics could mean anything - if it is a notebook or a generic hp/dell/compaq machine, seeing that your computer has a Xeon cpu, it is probably onboard graphics (most likely Intel). In that case: YES, you would definitely want to upgrade your graphics. Blender does not work well with Intel onboard graphics. Blender works best with a Nvidia video card. Get one with at least 512mb, and reasonably fast. GeForce GTX 260 (Core 216) is quite affordable. 280/285 even better (but you should really upgrade to a new computer in the latter case) The second problem is your Xeon cpu - it is slow, and it may not be worth it to upgrade your computer with a new video card. Upgrading is always more expensive (relatively) than buying a new machine. For best performance, get a quad core - rendering is fast in Blender with multiple cores. An overclocked 920 i7 (mine is overclocked to 3.7ghz) will give you a tremendous boost (more expensive than AMD, but really worth it if you need rendering power), while it is a way less expensive machine than dual cpu machines. Check out the benchmark list at http://www.eofw.org/bench/ to get a feeling which systems work best (hint: my machine is ranked at 22nd place :-)) Wheee! Mine cost around $1200 to build, including 12gb ram and a 280GTX oc. But even a Intel Core 2 Quad 6600, which will cost you around $600 to build/buy a system, will render VERY fast. Just make sure to get at least a GTX 260 (core 216) video card.
