what is better AutoCAD Inventor Professional Suite 2010 or Autodesk 3ds Max 2010?

I want a 3D modeling program and my school uses AutoCAD Inventor Professional Suite 2010, but is Autodesk 3ds Max 2010 better? and if so can it open files from AutoCAD?
