computer drafting program?

basically I want a program that I can do 3d renderings of house plans and interior layouts. I went to ITT Tech today and their drafting course students have this awesome program...but it costs about 2500...I'm looking for more around the 500 or less range...but free downloads would be better!

1. auto cad, google sketch up 7
2. they will give you the student version of the program or someone in school will have it...or you could try 3D studio max...it's not free but you can make 3d images in it.
3. Blender is a free open source program. It's worth learning but isn't optimized for your application (though you could write the extension that is). There are of course various cheap home architect programs at places like office depot and best buy. ~50-100$.
