- Solidworks is widely used (but I can't say if it's the most common).
- ~ There are so many variables for 3d programs, they would all be used and have to be compatible with international standards, and computer OS , and for architectural, mechanical and other designs, AutoCAD + http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/index?siteID=123112&id=2704278 SolidWorks http://www.solidworks.com/ Pro/ENGINEER PTC http://www.ptc.com/products/proengineer/ Ascon Kompas 3d http://ascon.net/solutions/kompas_3d/ Inivis AC3D - 3D Design Software http://www.inivis.com/ Piranesi 3D CAD Software http://www.piranesi.co.uk/ Imsi TurboCAD Professional http://imsidesign.com/IMSIDesign/tabid/214/Default.aspx ArchiCAD: 3D Architectural CAD http://www.graphisoft.com/products/archicad/ Leonardo ~CAD software http://www.leonardo-cad.co.uk/ Initial Graphics Exchange Specification http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/IGES ..
- the Adobe suite such as Photoshop, Illustrator are good soft ware 3D Studio max and auto CAD are all good tools it depends on what you want to focus on if your want to do Graphics illustrator and Photoshop will be useful but modelling or architecture 3d max and auto cad a great you can download 30 day trials and tutorials for these programs :)
- Autocad is distributed across the uk to the majority of schools and colleges. It seems it the best option when it comes to choosing cad software for learners but people with knowledge of cad software are able to use it without feeling they're using a beginners programme.
