Can you find out a babys gender sooner with a 3d ultrasound?
i'm 17 weeks pregnant and extremely anxious to find out what i'm having. Its my second baby, my first is an active 20 month old boy. I'm just wondering if a 3d ultrasound can tell sooner if its a boy or girl? So far on all the Old Wives "methods" its "supposed " to be a girl! lol but those are just for fun!

- Your far enough along that they can tell not matter what kind of ultrasound. I don't really think it matters what kind of ultrasound they use because the can see the same basic thing that they need to see. One just gives you better pictures and more details. I agree with trying the old wives tales for fun! They of course are just 50/50, but still a lot of fun.
- They don't like to do 3D ultrasounds too early because the baby doesn't look anywhere near fully formed until at least 24 weeks. (I imagine it can be pretty weird looking, and potentially disturbing.) They would probably be able to tell with a regular ultrasound at 17 weeks, but you'll just have to wait until your scheduled appointment.
- Probably. My cousin found out via 3D ultrasound at 18 weeks. And yes the baby may look a bit weird but it's not disturbing. After all, your little one does have a good bit of growing left to do.
