3D - 2

How well do 3D ultrasounds work when your 5 1/2 months?

I'm 5 and a half months pregnant and I have an appointment scheduled for a 3D ultrasound to see what my son looks like on sunday. Do you think its to early, my doctors think ill make it to around 8 months cause he's so beig now he's over 10 oz. I just don't want to waste 99 dollars on it.

  1. i had mine early and it looked horrible, she looked like an alien and i couldnt show the pictures to anyone. it just made me worry that she wasn't going to be normal but she turned out to be the cutest girl ever.
  2. Yeah agreed, the pics are not usually cute.
  3. I got it done around 7 months. You can see pretty clear. Baby doesnt look too great though. But it was very special =) i got to watch her open her mouth and play with her hands and toes. good luck
  4. I had frequent ultrasounds due to being high risk. After my doctor look at all the necessary things in 2d he always did a little 3d and four 4d at the end of every appointment. My best scan was at 27 weeks and it was beautiful. But week 24 and 30 were good too. The scan at 21 weeks and 18 weeks my baby was not yet filled out enough to get a really pretty picture. Not sure if it will be the same for you. That that was my experience.
  5. At 5 and a half months your baby will probably not look really cute. At this stage they have very little fat under their skin (they start to develop that when they get bigger, so they'll be insulated for a world that's colder than mommy's belly). So baby will look pretty skeletal and its face will look more like a skull. Some parents seem happy with any pictures of baby, but they always look freaky to me at this point. The pictures would probably be cuter at a later date. By the way, you may want to check with the place you have your usual ultrasounds before you spend money on a special 3D place. The hospital where I've been doing my clinical rotations has 3D capability on one of its machines and, if the baby's in a good position, the techs will often take a couple of 3D pictures for no extra charge.
