Am I getting full surround sound?

I have a speaker set (5.1), but it doesnt say Dolby anywhere on the speakers Does this mean it doesnt have a dolby decoder? It has 6 audio jacks in the back for connecting up to a DVD player, but i dont have a DVD player with 6 jacks, but I have PS2, gamecube, VCR, and DVD player connected to the speakers via a 4 way scart lead. I get no sound through the 5.1 channel (the 6 jack part i suppose), but if I connect with the L R (white and red) jacks, i can get 5.1 stereo, 3d sound and 2 channel. Am I getting full surround sound? and if not, what would i need to do so?

  1. No my friend you're not getting full SS, First of, you have to make sure you have a DD decoder, such as an audio receiver. Dolby Digital cannot be decoded from playing hardware to speakers directly. You must connect your player(PS2, dvd, etc.) to the decoder first, from wich you connect your speakers to. So far your only getting analog SS. Not digital SS. Heres waht you need, 1.An audio receiver capable of decoding: Dolby Digital, pro logic 2, SRS, and most important DTS. 2. Hard ware capable of playing Digital Audio(you seem to have this covered) 3. A set of 5 speakers and a sub woofer( you have those too I believe) Therez two way you can connect your speakers on certain receivers: two channel wires(red Rt and black Lt) or (single connecting jack for each speaker)either way you'll get 5.1. You can use your receiver to connect all audio sources. but you can only use one at a time. If you consider your self a High definition Enthusiast then wait for the upcomming HD Audio Receivers, wich will decode HD DTS and HD Dolby digital, for nex gen Hardware of course.
  2. nah, to get dolby digital you need a opitcal cable or a coxail cable going in to you Rec., this would go from the DVD player or PS2, dont worry about what the speakers say, it is up to the proccess, the Rec. or Amp Pre Amp the 6 jacks are for something called a SACD or DVD-Audio, the sound great by the way, I have them
  3. it dont matter what the speakers say ,, the set up has to be right ,, email the reciver number dvd player and so on .. ill get it going ,, you have something wrong ,, dvd in speakers .. never heard of it .. it goes to a recever ?
