What makes Maya better than 3d studio max?

What are there differences? Why is one like 10,000 dollars and the other 3,000$ Which on can create the most realistic 3D objects? I'm gonna make an attempt to learn some 3D, as confusing as it is.. I'm more aimed for video game development, and general realistic 3d objects. Which one would be best for me, and why? Whats their differences aswell?

Not sure where you are getting your prices?? Maya Complete is $2000 Maya Unlimited is $5000 (comes with the fun stuff, nCloth, Fur, Hair, Fluids, etc) 3ds Max is $4000 Overall there similar in price. MAX is focused more towards Gaming no a days. Maya is focused more towards Film. I really depends on what you want to do. They both can make realistic looking images.
