Why don't the 3D glasses they give you at the movie theater not work for movies that you buy on dvd?
I have been to the movies a lot this year and have seen multiple movies in 3D but I bought My Bloody Valentine 3D and the 3D version only works on the red and green lense glasses that came with the dvd. Can anybody tell me why that is cause i hate the red and green. To me it ruins the movie.

- they change the format from the theather screen to ur tv so the glasses wont work with a different format
- They have different formatting of 3D. There is not just one universal kind
- 3d is made with 2 different color layers. The lens color you need depends on the colors used. try drwing with those crayola 3d crayons or chalk to get a better sense of it
- The projection screen in a movie theater and the screen on your TV are completely different. The glasses used to see 3D at a theater are designed specifically for that screen, as are the ones the come with DVDs. Even though TVs can have varying types of screens as far as plasma, glass, or whatever, they all fit into the same red and green category but the theater screen does not. I hate the whole red and green thing too but unless you want to build yourself your very own personal mondo expensive theater or watch 3D movies only at a theater, it's the only choice you have for now. I am betting within a few years though, somebody will have figured something out.
- the magenta and green that came with MBV3D is for your tv.... because the version you saw in the movie theater was in REAL 3D digital format. It has to have a special screen to display itself correctly. You have anaglyph 3D glasses at home Maybe you should check into Field sequential 3D glasses. You'll never see the movie again the way you did in the theaters.... I just saw The Final Destination 3D last night and well.... I will be satisfied when the blue ray comes out cause to me the anaglyph glasses that come in the dvd provide just as good an image in high def....
- In a 3d movie there are double images of everything and one image can only go to the left eye and the other image can only go to the right. So the glasses must block and unblock each image. In the theater they can use polarized light to do this. This is done by having the one image have one polarized light wave and the other image a different polarized light wave. Then the one lens will block the one light wave but let the other one through with polairzed filters in them. Now when it comes to your television or monitor the dvd makers have a problem. No television in anyones home can do two different polarized light waves, it can just put out one light wave. So the only option it to use the 3d that uses red and blue glasses because those glasses use color to block and unblock the double images. Therefore any color tv will work with this 3d format.
