Help with radeon HD 4890?

i bought a radeon 4890 yesterday and installed it. some games (gta4(more often, almost constantly) and hawx(less often)) have really messed up textures. theyre stretched out, and the reflections sometimes appear as black spots. this only occurs for 3D renderings (obviously). can anyone help me out here? i know my way around a computer, but i cant seem to figure out whats going on here. i have all the latest patches and drivers installed, every graphics setting set to low, but still this stuff happens.

  1. If you have updated your driver since installing (i.e. Installed from the CD and then from the internet) try uninstalling all drivers. Restart the computer and install only the latest drivers. My brother had the same problem with an ATI card recently. Also be sure that your power supply is powerful enough to meet the required demand. This problem would usually just cause crashes and restarts, but I guess it could cause these symptoms in less extreme cases. Check the manual or the website for recommend power supplies. I'd guess about 450W with 36Amps on the 12V Rails. A virus scan never hurts either. If you've tried everything else, it's worth a shot. Do it in safe mode for a more effective scan. Finally, you could try downloading and installing Game Booster from http://www.iobit.com/gamebooster.html Once started it will temporarily disable any unnecessary applications free up precious resources for your games. Hope this helps, Dave
  2. ATI users do tout about drivers here and there, Ati's drivers are supposedly their "weak point" however the fellow who recommended you uninstall all drivers and only download new ones probably has your best bet. over writing old software with new software sometimes little bits of bytes lying around that mess up how the software is meant to interact with the hardware, possibly in your case, messed up textures.
