Would a 3d Ultrasound be able to determine my baby's gender at 5 months even if bump is small?

I am at my 20th week today but I'm not really showing that much. I'm too eager to know my baby's gender. We went to this ultrasound company but the doctors were already gone. The nurses told me that 5 months or my bump is just not that big yet to get an accurate determination.

  1. At 20 weeks, I see no reason why they can't tell as long as the baby is cooperating...I was told at 16 weeks and wasn't really showing yet, that has nothing to do with it.
  2. At 20 weeks, providing your baby will co-operate and be in the right position you should be able to tell the sex, size on this one doesn't matter. My son was very small and even full term I didn't have a bump and he happily showed his tackle on scans, I would wait and see what they can see on your normal ultrasound before shelling out for a 3d one (unless you really want one then go for it).
  3. i got my ultrasound at the end of month five and they could tell that it was a girl. I'm not really sure what the problem was there, but i was just fine, and my stomach was still really small. good luck!
  4. Gender has been determined at as early as 14 weeks. It sounds like they are a bunch of idiots there, I wouldn't go back, or at the very least I would check them out thoroughly before I went back. Your Dr. should have had you do a sonogram between 18-22 weeks, then you would know for sure. I wouldn't put my faith in people that think the gender determination has anything to do with the size of your bump.
  5. It shouldn't matter how big your bump is, that has no relation to how big your baby is anyway. All healthily developing babies will measure roughly the same at 20 weeks. If your pregnancy is progressing normally then there is no reason why you cannot be told the sex at this point. This is the point at which most mums who want to find out, get to find out, it's accurate now. I'm not quite sure what the nurses were talking about at all.
