Do you have to wear 3d glasses while watching a 3d movie for it to look normal?

Me and my mom were going to go see Avatar, but she says the 3d glasses give her a headache, we were going to go to a place showing it in 3d, so can she not wear them and will the movie look normal? Or will it look weird without the glasses on? Thank you for the help!

4. You have to wear three-D glasses because when you look at it without glasses, then it will look that there are like three of every object and it will look very weird. One time I went to the movies and they gave us three-D glasses and I tried to watch it without the glasses, but it looked very weird and I got very dizzy.
5. i have done this before and yes it looks incredible with the glasses on.
