3D - 2

LCD, Plasma, 3D whats the best TV to buy?

Hi, early next year we are going to turn my daughter's room (who is moving out) into a home theater room. I'm going to save some money to purchase a fairly top of the line TV. The space is not that large so I'm pretty sure anything between 36"-42" should be fine. What I need help determining is what is the difference between all these different flat panel TV's? I see online there are Plasmas and LCDs, HDTVs, and we saw one at one of the electronics store that almost looked 3D and had the most stunning picture. What would everyone suggest as far as having a really great picture for TV and movie watching in our new home theater room??

  1. Plasmas have elongated pixels, and many report they are more washed out than LCD equivalents. LCD's are more energy efficient than Plasmas, and are generaly cheaper. HDTV is a general term for any display unit capable of displaying HD content. (I.e. at resolutions of or greater than 720 lines interlaced) For movies and TV Id recommend an LCD TV as big as you can get it, with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. A TV such as the Philips ambi light would look quite good in a smaller room, as it shines ambient light out the edges of the TV which some find to be quite immersive.
  2. get lcd
  3. Wow. You're building a home theater but you said over in the cat section you can barely afford to feed your family? You should be ashamed of yourself. Oh and LCD lasts longer.
