Why do laptops with similar specs perform differently?
I have an older sony laptop that performs a lot better than a newer hp laptop with a higher processor speed and more RAM. We both use our laptops for 3D modeling, CAD, and renderings.

- Likely, the Sony you purchased was designed with a better Video adapter than the newer computers. That type of work requires a faster GPU, and I would be willing to bet that the new HP laptop has an Intel Integrated video adapter and the Sony has an ATI or NVIDIA graphics adapter.
- Could be because if different software environments. Try running a standardized suite of tests and see where the differences are.
