3D - 2

Why do laptops with similar specs perform differently?

I have an older sony laptop that performs a lot better than a newer hp laptop with a higher processor speed and more RAM. We both use our laptops for 3D modeling, CAD, and renderings.

  1. Likely, the Sony you purchased was designed with a better Video adapter than the newer computers. That type of work requires a faster GPU, and I would be willing to bet that the new HP laptop has an Intel Integrated video adapter and the Sony has an ATI or NVIDIA graphics adapter.
  2. Could be because if different software environments. Try running a standardized suite of tests and see where the differences are.
