Plasma TV looking "too 3D" ?

We just bought a new Samsung 50" Plasma. The contrast ratio on this thing is 15,000:1, as opposed to a lot of others I've seen are 10,000:1. Is this the reason why when I watch movies on the movie channel that things look TOO 3D? It is like, the people and objects close to the camera look oddly seperate from the background. The quality is "beautiful" but it just looks odd. Can this be adjusted, or is this normal for a HD Plasma with resolution of 13## X 9## (forgot the actual numbers but you get the point)
