When can you find out the sex of the baby with 3d ultrasound?
I am 12 weeks and 4 days pregnant. I cannot wait to find out the sex of the baby. I live in Canada and this is my thrid child and last. Since its my last we would like to do 3d ultrasound. How soon can I go for 3d ultrasound to find out the sex of the baby? And is it worth the money?

- I believe it's 18-20 weeks.
- 20 week scan ..
- I don't know how it is in Canada but in the US usually it's anywhere between 17-20 weeks. Good luck.
- You could go now if you want to find the sex of your baby. Remember, since this is still pretty early so it may depend on baby's position. I would however suggest waiting a few more weeks before getting a 3D ultrasound because let the baby develop more so you have good pictures. I got mine done at 28 weeks and it is crazy how much my daughter resembled the pictures when she was born. It was totally worth it.
- They would like to see you come at or after 18 weeks. But I have a 3d/4d ultrasound schedule for this saturday and i'll be 16w6d. You can always go a little earlier, because most places will reschedule an appt for you for free if you go and they cant tell you for sure what your having.
- My doctor told me the best time to find out the sex is around 16-18 weeks. But he recommended I wait until my 26th-28th week to do the 3D u/s. Only because the babie's skin is so transparent you will honestly see all the vital organs and bones. So if you don't mind waiting for a few more weeks, I would recommend waiting til the skin gets a little more fatty on the baby so you can really see him/her. Good luck and congrats.
- I'd say 16 weeks. 18 at the latest. 3d ultrasounds are awesome, and worth the money if you can afford it. Now, the optimal time for doing one is around 32 weeks, when the baby has fat and looks real. At 18 weeks, it will look like a baby but will be very skinny and not real cute. Some places offer a package deal where you can come a few times. That is your best bet.
- I think you can see the sex as early as 16 weeks. But be warned. 3D and 4D ultrasounds are great, but it takes a while for a baby to get enough fat on their face to really look like a baby. Before 24 weeks or so your babies face will not be filled in enough to be what you are really expecting in a 3D picture of you baby. I had ultrasounds ever 2 to 3 weeks starting at 18 weeks with my second child. I have a clotting disorder and my doctor needed to check for clots in the placenta. At the end of every appointment he did a little 3D for fun. And I can tell you at 18 weeks was not what I was expecting. Sure we saw that she was a girl. But the face was a bit odd. And the same was true for the 21 week scan. But 24 weeks the picture was very good. And at 27 weeks she looked exactly like she did when she was born. It was amazing. And the one at 30 weeks was good too. But by 32 weeks things were getting cramped and it was difficult to get a good picture. So you can do it earlier if you want to find out the sex that early. But really if you want a really clear picture of what your child will look like then wait until 24 weeks and no later than 30 weeks.
- You can go from 16 weeks . I have a leaflet from 'baby bond' a 3d ultra sound centre in london where i live. It says 28 weeks being the best time and upto 34. Hope this helps and congrats on baby number 3!
- In the US most 3D scans are done between 25-38 weeks of pregnancy. I have looked into them a lot and places around me (Joplin, MO and KCKS/KSMO) won't do them until at least 25 weeks. 2D ultrasounds are done no earlier than 20 weeks at most hospitals. Good luck....at 12 weeks you still have a ways to go!
