4D Ultrasound?
I am only 5 months pregnant but was thinking about getting the 4D ultrasound done but wanted to see if anyone knew about the amount of radiaton that they use. Is that ok for the baby?

- It's not radiation. It's sound waves, the same as they use for the regular ultrasounds you get at a doctor. The difference is they use computers to put the still pictures together so that you see motion and a 3d picture. It's perfectly safe.
- Its totally okay if you do the 4d ultrasound. The only reason doctors don't want you to do this is because you can see if there is something wrong with the baby. say there is only one hand or something is wrong in the face features or missing they don't want the mother to freak out. But other than that its totally okay to do this. Good luck. *Mother of 2 year old little girl and 28 weeks pregnant. I did the 4D ultrasound with my daughter it was awesome and looking forward to doing it again!! Good luck.
- There are studies that suggest a link between ultrasound and autism. It is recommended to avoid ALL ultrasounds that aren't medically indicated. This is just a suggested correlation, but personally, I wouldn't take the risk. If there's no medical basis for an ultrasound, why have it. I have looked online for studies to show a link, without getting anything definitive. In fact, there seems to be a complete lack of studies about the effect of ultrasound/doppler on a fetus. I hope this doesn't turn out in 50 years to be our generations version of cytotec, routine pelvic x-rays done during pregnancy, etc.
- It is no more harmful than a regular sonogram. I would wait as long as possible to get that done. I had it and my baby girl looked like an alien! It was so awesome though! Definitely get it done! It is great for the baby book!
- Its totally fine. No harmful radiation is used. I had one, unfortunately he kept his hands over his face so it didnt work out. But its the same as your standard ultrasound.
