Why are they making 3D televisions?
Can't people just see 3d with the glasses. Why do we have to buy at 3D tv? I mean no one had a 3D television and they were able to watch the Michael Jackson Tribute at the Grammys.

- Because eventually flat screen, high def TVs will become cheap enough that everybody will have them. Once 3D is cheap, they will have to create smell-o-vision. Or just some Matrix style setup. Whatever makes money.
- To extract more money from you and me. I won't do one till there is content for it. I suggest waiting for everybody.
- Its a different technology. The one at the Grammys was Anaglyphic which uses the cyan and red glasses. Generally speaking to get a 3d effect each eye "sees" a different picture at the same time and the brain brings the two images together as one 3d looking image. Anaglyphic Viewing anaglyphs through appropriately colored glasses results in each eye seeing a slightly different picture. In a red-blue anaglyph, for instance, the eye covered by the red filter sees the red parts of the image as "white", and the blue parts as "black" (with the brain providing some adaption for color); the eye covered by the blue filter perceives the opposite effect. True white or true black areas are perceived the same by each eye. The brain blends together the image it receives from each eye, and interprets the differences as being the result of different distances. This creates a normal stereograph image without requiring the viewer to cross his or her eyes. Movies such as Avatar tend to use Polarization technology, and the new 3d Tvs use Alternate-frame sequencing. Alternate-frame sequencing you pretty much have a show or movie that is filmed with a left eye image and right eye image. The glasses sync to the TV and rapidly opens and closes to allow your eye to only see the appropriate image creating the 3d effect. I would personally wait till the Autostereoscopic technology is available to buy because then you do not need any glasses. Because for all the previous technologies you need glasses so if you dont have enough to provide to everyone watching the show they are out of luck
- For Michael Jackson they used the two colored 3d glasses that looked red and blue. This 3d can be done on any color television because it uses those two colors for the 3d effect. All left eye images are say red and all right eye images blue. Then the colored lenses block the images meant for the other eye. Only problem is using colored lenses like; 1. anaglyph- red and cyan. 2. trioscopic- green and magenta 3. colorcode- blue and yellow, the colors of the movie are messed up. To do other 3d formats the television has to be made to do it. Even when they had systems that did 3d that worked with the shutter glasses for the old tube televisions you still had to have a converter box to plug into your television.
