What exactly is a 3D sound thingie?

I was ordering a USB octopus and a printer cable on amazon, and I came across a 3D sound adapter. I figured since it was only like 75 cents, I would pick one up. I know what 3D is, but this thing would go into a USB port, and then you put in the 3.5 cord, and plug it into my iHome, and then the sound will be 3D?

1. Unless you have a very old pc, you already have surround sound outputs on your pc and there is no need for it. EDIT: Dont know what century STEPHEN is from but 3D sound has been on the market for the last 20 years! When you have at least 3 distinct, seperate audio track outputs going to speakers, you HAVE 3 dimensional sound duh!

3. Sound cannot be 3d. Sounds like false marketing. All it does is create another headphone jack in your USB port. Sounds pointless.
