  1. They told me the difference between the 3d and the 4d was in the 3d it is still images and the 4d you can see them moving, that is what the tec told me anyway. I had mine done at 25 weeks, i really recommend waiting till 27-28 for the best pictures. there are no benefits it just for fun. you can see the sex of the baby. They can not diagnose anything, i mean any kind of health defects etc because they are not doctors. You get something like 10 color photos and 12-15 black and whites and you also get a DVD of the whole process, I paid about 140 for mine and i would have it done again if i have another pregnancy, I love it, it was really awesome. Good luck to you, hope i have helped some. EDIT: So glad i got a thumbs down because the poster below me does not agree with having a 4d ultra sound. Well it cant be that bod for the baby if her doc did them the rest of her pregnancy, how ridiculous. The choice is yours, research it if you want to get one. YOU DO NOT NEED DOCTORS PERMISSION TO GET A 4D ULTRA SOUND! ITS YOUR CHOICE! Good luck to you
  2. Unless there are problems you only need the one ultrasound around 17-23 weeks. You should talk to your doc about this. If he wants you to have another ultrasound, he'll tell you when. In response to the above poster, the AMA has adviced against having so-called "fun" ultrasounds. There is no purpose to them and there can actually be some harm. You should only have the ultrasounds that your doc wants you to have. Then they can be used as a diagnostic tool. I had a baby who had problems and I had 4d ultrasounds once a week starting at 32 weeks all the way till he was born. It was the doctors way of keeping an eye on some of his development in utero. And yes, you do see them move in a 4d ultrasound but you'll be hard pressed to find a medical doctor who would be willing to authorize one unless you need it.
  3. I think they consider 3D the still pics and 4D the video that they take of the baby in the womb, but I could be very wrong about that. The benefits? None, that is why insurance does not cover it. My doctor suggests having this done between 27 and 28 weeks that way the baby has enough fat on it to look like a baby but is not so crowded in the womb that you can't see it.
  4. PER GE's website: To create 3D images, an ultrasound system determines the volume of a subject - for example, a baby. The system then reconstructs the image in three dimensions. As for 4D Ultrasound, only the Voluson 730 can gather 3D volumes and instantly reconstruct them into moving images
  5. I had a 3D ultrasound at 20 weeks and another at 30 weeks. I would say wait until around week 28-30, because the baby grows so much between week 20 and 30. My baby looked like a completely different baby at this point because he had gained so much weight and had little chubby cheeks and all. It's awesome! Definitely get one!
