Best Heaphones for Rap Music?

I'm a big fan of hip hop music, yet for the last year I've been listening to it through the apple headphones that came with my iPod. I recently got a job, and have decided to invest $300-$400 in a good set of headphones. I want to know which ones are the best. The two main models I'm looking at are the Bose Quietcomfort 3's and Beats by Dr. Dre. There tends to be a split on electronic forums between supporters of both. The QC's got a higher score on cnet, but since the Beats are by rap artist Dr. Dre, I thought they might be better for an exclusive hip-hop listener. A lot of the time people recommend obscure online brands that are supposed to be cheap and better (for instance a pair by Denon and a pair by Sennheiser are often reccomended). Unfortunetly, I cannot buy items on the internet, and I live in Canada so retail stores have limited brand options. On a side note, I am a psychonaut who experienments with combiations of hallucinogenic substances (marijuana, magic mushrooms, etc.) and music. Hence, I'm also looking for a pair of headphones that provide somewhat '3D' sound. Thanks.
