- No way. They're just for people who are bored (like me) and want to have fun. I play a game called Wizard101. I'm addicted, but, for my own safety, I don't play 24/7. I think they're pretty fun ;)
- They are an easy way for people who lack the confidence to act a certain way in real life, to be who they want to be. Many people are shy, and not very good at socializing with new people face to face -- these games allow them to feel like this is not so. Also, even very confident people are often afraid of going after what they want, so they act out their fantasies in false worlds. I think they are a nice idea, but ultimately damaging. People can become addicted and lose sight of what it really important.
- i think that they are made to take people away from reality into a better world because sometimes, reality is just not on your side and they make things better (:
- Virtual worlds are no different that any other type of possibly addictive activity. There are those that will be consumed by them and lose their way, but the majority will simply have fun as with any other type of game. If people have an addictive personality, they will be sucked in by something, sooner or later.
- For most people, i.e., people without predispositions to doing crazy stuff like confusing games with reality, they're probably harmless. But for that small percentile who has trouble with the boundary between fantasy and reality, they could be a negative influence.
- As with any tool, it depends on how it is used, TV for example can be good for reaching out to people or for spreading False ideology or deception like propaganda, it is all how it is used, 3d games can be entertaining if it is done correctly and with the users education in mind, But for use as a Combat simulator ? or Violence ? No
- adversely affect the mentality of people? not really, doesn't make them any smarter or dumber than before.... I would say that for those with addictive behaviors these games can be devastating, such people become lost in fantasy and then have difficulty in dealing with the realities of life. I think that for those with a healthy mental status, however, they are for the most part harmless forms of entertainment.
- No they don't. They are just an escape for people, as all games are. Virtual reality games are a miracle of technology, and have taken gaming to another level, but they don't affect the mentality of people as such. They're something like movies - only for entertainment. Most people don't take movie stories seriously, nor do they take role playing 3D games too seriously. 3D games are like any other games - they're a good medium to escape from the harsh real world in small doses, but can become addictive real soon if overused. Research has already shown that playing the right games helps develop one's sense of strategy, reflex power and dexterity of fingers. The same researchers also say that, just like anything else, too much gaming is addictive and bad for normal people, unless your profession involves gaming (like a game tester).
- Like many another new technology before it, it's quite possible that such games are harmful to someone who is already vulnerable for some reason. Certainly a person who has trouble telling reality from fantasy already should not indulge in them. But I think they are too new for any significant research to have been done yet on the effects of extensive use; addiction if you will. Or we may find that such games are actually good for people, giving them an opportunity to do what could be seen as thought experiments. There is potentially much to be gained from "what if" as a starting point. Test an idea in virtual reality before making a mess of physical reality.
- I think they're okay. How these games, or anything else for that matter, influences a person depends on the person. You can choose to allow anything to have an effect on you, positively or negatively. It depends on your mental stability and and how you choose to perceive things. A 3D game is really no different than a book, or a TV show, or a movie, or going on a date, what you get out of it and how you take things is determined by you.
- Its not a negative thing.. i know you know what i mean :D it actually depends on the virtual world that a man is playing.. if its a positive game or should I say for PG then it gives a positive influence.. lots of people found these virtual worlds as a place to socialize which in reality they can not due to some disability or they have some issues with being afraid on talking to other people.. but having this virtual world they overcome those fears and become a better person.. some people are diverse into this virtual world from some bad habits or addiction. so for me it does not give negative influence.. just play the right game for your age.. :D RIP There.com
