Mono vs. Stereo sound on digital cameras?

I am going to a concert in September, and there isgoing to be a lot of bass and a lot of drums. I need a new camera and someone suggested the Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. Everything was perfect, and then I saw that the audio was mono. What is the difference between mono and stereo, and what would be the best forloud concerts? Any other camera suggestions? Thanks.

  1. Your ears hear stereo - a slightly different sound from each side. That is what lets you work out if a noise is coming from your left or your right. Mono means it is the same in both sides. NO little tiny P&S camera will ever sound GOOD, let alone record even half reasonable sound from a concert. There is a reason why the audio pros have very very large and expensive gear. If they could get away with ONE teeny tiny little camera, they would dearly love to do that, too.
