3D - 2

3D Television question?

ok im getting a thousand dollar flat screen tv its either 42 inch or 47 i forget which in a month or 2 but with so much hype of 3d television i dont know if i should get the 3d or not. Is it worth it,i remember when hd came out it took a long while for cable/satelite to provide hd channels. If i do get a 3d tv and i have 1k how small will my tv be,because i can only assume 1k will only afford a a new tech tv if its small. What should i do.Thanks.

  1. According to most reviewers, 3D TVs will cost around $400 more than comparable 2D TVs. Since you have a small budget, that will eat a lot of it. At this point 3D content is only available on a limited number of blu-rays, and you need a special blu-ray player to play them. I'd say just get a 2D TV. The 3D technology is new, and the standard may change. Give it 5-10 years to become standardized and work out the kinks and drop in price.
  2. I would not worry about a 2d only television getting obsolete for several years. In fact I don't see 2d ever becoming obsolete. That 3d will just be a option people will have in the future, movies on dvd will be in 3d and 2d. If you really really would be disappointed not to have 3d then you may want to considerate it. If 3d is not to important to you then you will be fine just getting one that does not have 3d features. We really need a few years of these 3d movies coming out and increasing in number before you will have enough content to make it really worth having. Right now only about 24 3d movies have been released in theaters since the first one being Polar Express in 2004. Not that many so far.
