What makes samsung 3D tv 3D?

If google street view for example can show in 3D on my screen, then obviously you dont need a special screen to make it 3D. why dont they just release movies in 3D format instead?

1. The 3D in Google Street Maps is totally different from the 3D in the new TVs. Google used the old red/blue anaglyph 3D. The new 3D TVs (Samsung being the first) require active shutter glasses and is a much imporved way to do 3D. 3D movies will be released soon for the new 3D players and TVs. "Monsters and Aliens" is currently the only 3D movie released. Stop by a Best Buy and take a look for yourself.
