3d modelling for games, good programs?

i need a modelling program that can design 3d models for games, with arma 2 being the main one. It being free would be nice as these don't need to be really high detail models, and quite simple as the closest thing I've done to this is CAD 3D drawings on pro-desktop, solid works, etc... . Also what is a good map editor/creator for arma2 etc.. (not the mission editor)
