How To Open 3D Models In Blender?

Hello, I recently downloaded some 3D models. They come with 3DS files and TGA files. I would like to open them in the Blender program, but do not know how. I have no prior experience with 3D models, but many failed attempts. =) Thanks for your help.

1. Start Blender, press A to select and X to delete everything, then go to FILE > down to the bottom of the entries IMPORT > and choose 3D STUDIO (.3ds) > then navigate to your 3ds model click it and then click IMPORT 3DS on the top right and a little dialogue appears be sure image search is on there and click OK. most of the time that's about it.
