is there a computer program that allows you to build 3d models of things using simple machines?

1. Try Google Sketchup. It is free and it's from Google. I have used it and it is pretty simple and the online gallery is huge.

Im sorry there are few and many of them cost several hundreds of dollars, but there is one that I use, its made from germany it is hard to get the hang of and you do need to look at tutorials to figure it out, this software is called Blender I use it to make small animations you may be able make other thing with it I have yet to use it to its full extents. What you are looking for is called CAD (Computer aided drafting) and this does run for more than hundreds of dollars.
