When is far enough along to go for a 3D ultra sound ?

We are 14 weeks pregnant and just wondering when the best time to go for a 3D ultra sound. I have heard that its not worth it if you go to early because the baby is not developed enough to really see the face and features. Has anyone else had one? If so at what week ? Or what week would you recommend to have it scheduled? We have another regular ultrasound on November 3rd, at 19 weeks. However would you recommend we wait until after that for best results? Maybe around 22-24 weeks?

1. I would say the farther the better. i had one at 15 weeks and they did not do much but wiggle and sleep. Then i had one at 25 weeks and it was a little better i could see the gender very clearly but then i had one at 32 weeks and i seen then open and close their eyes, yawn and they ev en grabbed hands for a second. so i seen a lot more. all of them were special "awww" moments but the 32 week one really got me.
2. I had many done. I was high risk in my last pregnancy. So I needed regular 2d ones every few weeks after week 18. And my doctor always did a little 3d and 4d at the end of every appointment just for fun. My best one was at 27 weeks. It was perfect. That is exactly how she looked when she was born 12 weeks later. The picture was astounding. The one at 24 weeks was good to. As well as the one at 30 weeks. At 21 weeks there was not enough fat on her face yet-- too look as normal and as cute as you are used to babies looking. And by 32 weeks there just wasn't enough room to get a good picture.
3. I had a 3D one done at 18 weeks. While we could make out facial features, he was so skinny and there were no facial expressions or anything. I had another 3D done at 28 weeks and it was perfect. We got to see him smile, suck his thumb, open his eyes, and all kinds of stuff. The place I got it done at recommends between 28 and 32 weeks for the best images.
4. At our facility, you can find out the gender as early as 15 weeks. But we recommend the best time to come in to get the best pictures of the baby is between 24 and 30 weeks.
