How do you request for 3D ultrasound of my babies? I'm 12 weeks pregnant with Twins?

I have a doc appt for my 14 week check up. when he gives me an order for the Ultrasound do i have to ask if i can go to a 3d ultrasound or is that an option (we don't care if it costs more). I have had regular ultrasounds already but would like 3d. Thanks for all responses.

1. 3D ultrasounds are a luxury. You will have to fund and organize them yourself.
2. you'll have to ask them if they do 3d ultrasound and let them know that you're willing to pay the extra costs. if they don't do them you'll have to find a place out in town somewhere. you may be able to ask the doc if they know of anywhere that does them or you can just type "(your town) 3d ultrasounds" into google and you should be able to find any in the area. i recommend waiting though. i did one at 15wk and 5ds with my baby and he was kinda scary looking, but the package we got included a second ultrasound at 29weeks and it was amazing! but with twins it may be hard to wait until 29wks because they may run out of room.
3. My dr. has a 3D/4D machine in his office.. I was given a piece of paper when I went in explaining the different packages they had and how much it would cost. But my Dr. wouldn't do the 3D till between weeks 24-28. You wouldn't have an option about the 3D if this is a Dr. recommended ultrasound. But definitely ask the nurses when you go in to the Dr. if they have a machine or if they know where you can get one done.. I know the cost was between $160-190. and it wasn't guaranteed. If baby didn't cooperate you could come in one more time and have it done, but after that you were just out of luck if baby wouldn't show it's face..
