3D - 2

Is it too early to get a 3d ultrasound?

I'm 19 weeks and know that the baby is still pretty skinny, but I am a okay with that. How accurate is the gender results with a 3d ultrasound. Thanks!

  1. I've heard that anything before 28 weeks, the baby looks like an alien and the 3D ultrasound isn't worth it. It's best to wait until the baby is bigger and you can catch a glimpse of his/her features. They say that 30-32 weeks is the best time to have a 3D ultrasound. But if you aren't that bothered, I say go for it! I would love to go for a 3D ultrasound at any number of weeks. It's a really special moment :) Edit: Sorry.. the gender is accurate from 16 weeks with a 3D ultrasound and from 20 weeks with a 2D ultrasound. However, it might not always work. I went for a 2D ultrasound with my girl and she kept crossing her legs so I had to book in for another 2D ultra! x
  2. Telling the sex @ 19 weeks is fairly accurate. 26 week is the perfect time for 3d though because the baby looks like itself more.
  3. When you go in for your next OB appointment, you can get an ultrasound to check for the sex of the baby. I don't believe there is a need for it to be 3D. Some OBs don't have the equipment to do 3D. You should ask your OB. It never hurts to ask. I am sure they are use to moms who are eager to see their babies. I am 28 weeks and I tried to get a 3D pic of my baby boy, but he had his arms in front of his face, so we couldn't capture and image. When I was pregnant with my daughter, I was unable to get a 3D of her, either.
  4. You should be really close to having the scan at your doctors office so I would think you would have that in a week or so, I would hold off and just find out then and then pay for a 3d ultrasound once you are about 28 weeks so the baby will have more fat and be more developed. Best of luck.
  5. I've heard that they look for the development of the pubic bone to determine the sex before 19 weeks. Girls have a thicker pubic bone than boys and it's easier to spot than the genitals. Bone always looks white on a regular ultrasound. If you have to pay extra for it just wait and get the regular ultrasound.
  6. Trust me don't do it now. Babies haven't developed properly yet and if you don't want nightmares then I highly recommend to wait. I got to see my boy around that time and I was actually freaked out, he had a big head and looked like an alien. I had several 3d/4d scans and saw how much the developmental change was from 21 weeks to 32 weeks.... Seriously i'd wait until your 28 weeks at the latest to get one of those scans
