3D Television idea. Would it work?
Since the 3D glasses allow u to see the picture in 3D what's stopping them from making a TV plate that is made out of the same see through part of the 3D glasses and sticking it on your TV. Why would/ wouldn't it work...? omg i should have known that

- Because both eyes would be seeing both images, hence no 3D. 3D requires totally separate images in each eye. ------------------------ Followup per the other answer: the active shutter system, the two-color system, and the polarization system all display two separate images on a single screen.

You could be onto something as the Nintendo 3DS uses a very similar idea to what you say, it's a slider-screen that gets used for 3D games, as not all games played on the 3DS will be 3D so it needs an option of having the screen activated or off.
- Maybe this will help. To see a movie in 3d they use a 3d camera that has 2 lenses spaced apart like your eyes. Each lens records a complete 2d movie at the same time, recording what you would see if in that same spot. Now only the right eye can see the right lens movie and the left eye the left lens movie, so both movies must be on the screen at the same time. To do this the lens over your right eye must block the left lens movie but let the right eye movie through. So if you put something over your screen how is the right eye not going to see what the left eye sees. However there is a 3d tv that can do this. It is called an autostereoscopic television. It works just like those 3d baseball cards that are in 3d without glasses. Half the pixels angle slightly to the left, the other half slightly to the right. Then when you stand at a certain distance, the pixels angle into your left eye or right eye. Then you just send the 2 2d movies to the correct pixels. Of course resolution is cut in half because each eye only sees half the pixels. They already have these no glasses 3d televisions in Japan for home use, and will be released in the US in the future. Businesses already have them for advertising purposes in the lobby.
