3D - 2

Do the Oakley 3D glasses work with imax 3D movies or just with realD 3D movies or both?

I want to buy the Tron edition 3D glasses so I can see Tron legacy in IMAX 3D but i am not sure if they work with imax 3D

  1. I just got a pair of Oakley 3D glasses today. Inside the box, on the included pamphlet there is a note: Oakley 3D eyewear is not compatible with IMAX 3D theater projection systems or with active polarized ("Active 3D") televisions or computer monitors, the type designed for use with 3D eyewear that requires batteries. I was disappointed to read the note, because I love IMAX 3D. The Oakley 3D glasses are totally awesome. I used the RealD theater lookup tool to find a theater compatible with the Oakley 3D glasses: http://www.reald.com/Content/Theatre-Locator.aspx
  2. I guess i'm a bit late here, but IMAX 3D and REAL3d use different projection systems so they won't work. They also will not work with 3D tvs, although Oakley is currently in talks with a few of the major manufacturers to produce optically correct 3d glasses for the different model 3DTV's on the market or coming to market. Strangely enough, there is no industry standard for 3d. So a pair of glasses that works with one manufacturer won't work for a differnt brand 3D TV. D
