3D - 2

Can a layperson create a 3D CAD file if the shape is fairly simple?

Basically a triangular prismic shape with a threaded knob protruding from its base, pretty simple; is this something I should be paying a service to create or, given CAD software, could I (with no experience with graphic design) get the job done? Thanks! I guess what I was asking was how much of a learning curve is there on most CAD software

  1. Nope.. CAD is the exclusive realm of the clergy... :) You can do it. I will say this though... start with google sketchup http://sketchup.google.com/ If you can do it in sketchup you should be able to do it in autoCAD or something like it. Who knows... Sketchup being what it is, you may be able to get away with only that.
  2. Can a lay person paint a portrait in oil if it;s a fairly simple portrait? That's what you're asking - and the answer depends on who the person is. It's not experience. To a right-brained person, the world just *IS* art. It's all balance, shadow, contrast, etc. A right-brained person could no more make a "bad" graphic than a mole could fly. A left-brained person could - possibly - draw a straight line. But what's wrong with chartreuse and violet? I don't see the problem. (But the world is analytic, and I can start writing code as soon as I understand what the problem to be solved is.)
