How to add Special Effects (3D models, fumefx, etc) to a real-time video I shot?

So I'm starting to get into video making. I recently got a full hd camera, and a 3d modeling and animation software, and have some Adobe software on the way. I was wondering if anyone could tell me or send a link on how to add animations, like things catching fire or 3d models, into my video i shot on the camcorder, so they appear in the same video together.
