What graphics card do I need to run cad software like autocad?

I want to be able to run autocad like butter, but right now all I have is a Nvidia GT220. It can't run it fast enough. I was looking into buying the 6870 from ati, but I was also looking at the GTX 460 or something along those lines. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. The GT 220 seems good enough for basic use. Anyway, for autocad i would recommend ATI because it has a VERY high amount of Texels or T/s (which is good for inventor). The nvidia GTX 460 is cheaper then the 6870 (on newegg.com ) And would be sufficient enough for tasks on autocad that are pretty complex. And the 6870 is just as good. All in all i would actually go with the 6870. It will be very good for software like autocad. (20,000 Mpixels and 50,000 MTexels/s) Which is better then the 460. **Edit- Wow i said that? Sorry listen to the one above
  2. The Autodesk site provides a list of certified hardware for running AutoCAD: http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/hc?siteID=123112&id=6711853&linkID=9240618 I have found the Nvidia Quadro cards to be fast and stable as they have drivers specifically optimised for running AutoCAD and other 3D CAD apps: On the page below, look at the video titled 'See the productivity advantage you get in AutoCAD 2011 when using Quadro.' http://www.nvidia.com/object/bfp_autocad_2011.html It gives a comparison between Quadro cards and consumer cards.
