Samsung 3D TV turns off when I power on FIOS?

I just bought new Samsung PN58C8000 TV, hooked it up to to an old Verizon FIOS hDTV receiver (not the newer box) and used an HDMI cable that is NOT 1.4x (used for 3d TV), but instead just a regular old HDMI cable. After the TV starts to show the programming in hi set (for only about 1 second), the TV powers down on its own. I know it's probably not the TV because the TV worked fine when the DVD player was plugged into it. So, is it the FIOS box itself perhaps not being compatible? Or is it the HDMI cable?

1. It sounds like your remote is set to turn on both the TV and the FiOS box. You may have one turned on, but not the other, therefore when you push power on the remote, it turns the box on, but the TV off (and vice-versa). Just go push the power button on your TV, or FiOS box (but not both). Then push power on the remote and it should sync up to where it turns both on and off at the same time.
