3D - 2

Can any DVD be viewed in 3D thru a 3d player and TV?

Thinking of purchasing a 3D TV and player but would we have to replace our current DVD's with 3D DVD's in order to watch them in 3D? We also watch a lot of movies online through the PS3, would the games or online movies be viewbale in 3D if played through the 3D player and tv. Thanks :)

  1. you can watch everything in 3d but TV games and DVD that are made for 3d will work much better
  2. You will not see anything in 3D EXCEPT movies made in 3D format. You would have to replace all your movies if you wanted to see them in 3D. Games will not be in 3D unless the game is designed to be 3D. the first responders answer is just simply wrong.
  3. Some 3DTVs have a mode that tries to convert non-3D material into 3D. I think some 3D blu-ray players have this too. I don't know if this will work with any material, or if it requires it to be in HD - in which case your old DVDs wouldn't be able to be displayed in 3D anyways. I also do not know how well this feature works, but obviously it won't look as good as actual 3D blu-ray movies that were specially mastered to be in 3D. IF your 3DTV can do the conversion, then yes, anything you play on the TV, could be displayed in this converted 3D mode. Otherwise, only material that is explicitly in 3D from the PS3 will be displayed in 3D on your TV. This includes games or streaming videos. As far as I know, no one is offering 3D movies in streaming format at this time.
  4. The pro gramme needs to be made in 3D first.
  5. Many of the current 3D TVs have 2D to 3D conversion capability, so in theory yes you can watch your existing DVDs in 3D...either via the DVD player or PS3. But 2D to 3D conversion is always likely to be disappointing when compared with true 3D content. For that you need a 3D Blu Ray or access to a 3D TV channel...and for the Blu Ray you need Blu Ray disks with properly filmed 3D movies. If you don't want to buy a 3D Blu Ray then the best bet is to visit a store that has demo models and get a demo of a set with 2D to 3D conversion built in. That will give you a good idea of what you're likely to see. Even so, virtually all the current 3D TVs give excellent 2D pictures as well, so it is a good time to buy one as long as the price is good.
