How did people learn blender(3d modeling program) before people started making tutorials?

I am really want to know, because when i started blender the first time ( i have worked in 3dsmax before blender) i felt like a chicken in tokyo!! 3ds max is more natural and everyone can learn it even without tutorials, just using manual. But blender is a insane asylum , in a good way! :D Maybe a stupid question but oh well :P P.S: I started using blender, because it is faster than 3dsm and maya and it is free :D

2. I bought 2 books, Essential Blender and Character Animation with Blender. Took me about a month to learn the basics.
