Do you need an architect to build a house if you have an engineer specializing in home construction?

I have a piece of land and thinking of building in the near future, I'm not an architect but i have a clear picture of how it looks on sketchup/3D model like and thinking of submitting to my engineer instead of architect to save a little bit of $. what's the difference of building a house with/without an architect ?

  1. If the engineer can produce quality blueprints of the home for the permitting agency then you do not need an architect.
  2. You need to contact your building department. Most departments require that all plans have an original stamp from a licensed architect.
  3. Many have asked us this question before. But we recommend a new home buyer to hire one. It does not cost as much as is thought off here in Bangalore, India. And the most one can save is 15-20%. Imagine the amount of time, skills and resources that an experienced Architect and Interior Designer would bring in. Also an architect helps design and allocate space in such a manner that it creates harmony and enhances positive energies in terms of form, function and climate control.
  4. well if you want a quality house definitely u need an architect , even though u have a picture of your desired house in your mind but if you come to details u never can design properly , in terms of proper location of openings , proper circulation , the proper space planning , ways to achieve natural ventilation , best ways to get natural lights , and beautification , what i mean by beautification is not about the decoration , the proper space planning the proper dimension of spaces will give beauty to the house , we have houses and apartments that have been designed by civil engineers and they are mostly not following the basic principles of plannings and design , it lacks the beauty and the touch of an artist , if you want a quality house where you can enjoy living for a long time , i advice you to hire an architect , who has been working their ass off to achieve these qualities, otherwise im almost sure that you will regret after you see the result ...
