3D - 2

Could someone direct me to some high-caliber anime (preferably movies)?

Stuff somewhere around the same caliber as The Animatrix, Metropolis, Akira, Appleseed, whatever. Doesn't matter if the animation is 2D, 3D, as long as it's visually good. I'm mostly looking for production value but more adult-oriented, intellectual appeal as well. Surely there can't be only this small handful of good anime movies. I don't have the free time to be interested in shows/series, but if you know one that's visually REALLY good then I'll check it out.
