Why have i gotten a 4d ultrasound at every appointment?

I'm 29 weeks pregnant and have recieved a 4d ultrasound at every doctor visit totaling 4 already and will be starting my every 2 week appointments now, and they keep telling me to bring in the cd they made from first visit so they can add the pics to the same cd. Nothing is wrong with baby and me, I'm not a high risk....anyone have suggestions?

  1. Maybe you just have an extra nice sonographer, normally you have to pay for 4d scans so your pretty lucky im not to sure why they keep giving you them but at least it is something to keep and enjoy
  2. wow that's just ridicules, they are exposing baby unnecessarily. I would personally tell them that I do not want any more ultrasounds or change clinics.
  3. That might be the only machine they have. Be happy! My doctor doesn't even offer 3d or 4d !
  4. Because your doctor has figured out a way to scam your insurance company for lots of extra money by charging for multiple unnecessary and potentially dangerous tests. Ultrasound is a medical tool. Where there is a clear medical indication, ultrasounds, even multiple ones, may be called for. But in an uncomplicated, straightforward pregnancy, there is really no need for ANY scans (even the routine 20 week scan has no *real* medical benefit) - and you definitely don't need one at every visit. While there is little evidence of harm from ultrasound, the fact that it's been in use for a relaitvely short time (and 4d scans are even newer) makes it impossible to rule out possible harm. So I would politely refuse further scans unless your doctor can provide with a real medical justification.
  5. i wish id gotten even one lol, maybe thats just how they do it there
  6. WOW. Why aren't you asking your doctor about this? It isn't that normal to have that many ultrasounds, nor it is all that good. You need to take control of your medical care and ask questions.
  7. yeah that does not sound right.. I only got 1 ultrasound my whole pregnancy and it was just the normal one..not even 3D. (which they do have available but probably for only high risk or if you pay extra). I truly think they are scamming the health insurance company to pay off their super expensive machine faster! Make sure you aren't paying copays or the brunt of this either! definitly call your health insurance company. I actually work at a health insurance company and I process claims like this! this is a huge red flag!
  8. Wow, I would ask your doctor why they keep doing these. Normally you get 2 ultrasounds during pregnancy unless there are concerns. I am guessing that your doctor has this machine in his office? Because normally you are sent to the radiology department to get these done. Honestly my guess is that they are trying to justify why they need one of these machines in their office. I have worked in a doctors office and know how that little "game" works. The doctor wants a expensive piece of machinery and in order to justify this they need to show that they "need" it. It also makes things easier for the doctor b/c he/she can see the position of the baby and see things that normally may not be caught with a routine visit. However if there is nothing abnormal about this pregnancy I would question the need for this b/c they don't know the effect this could have on the baby. Hopefully they are getting approval from your insurance company to do these or you will be stuck with a fat bill. Again, generally insurance companies are not going to allow more than 2 without a very good reason. So either your doctor is fudging the billing codes to make it seem like there is a concern or you have awesome insurance!
  9. That's ridiculous. I am assuming you have good insurance so your doctor is basically just making a ton of extra money on a completely uneccesary medical procedure. Even though it's fun to see your baby every month, your insurance may catch on and drop you or start making you pay. I'd stop it while you're ahead.
