3d ultrasound?
I am getting a 3d ultrasound today. Do you know if it is the same procedures as a regular one? Has anyone had one? What should i expect?

- I had 2 done for both pregnancies and their are done the same way as a regular ultrasound.
- Same exact thing, just a better picture and a bigger machine.
- the are basically the same, same procedure, but clearer picture
- Yeah, exactly the same way, if it's your first 3d scan, get ready for a shock, it's incredible.
- Hi I had one of these and they are fantastic the same concept applies with the gel on the tummy etc but you don't need a full bladder to get a good picture. Enjoy it they are amazing Good luck let me know how it went!! Lianne x
- yes it basically is the exact same thing as a regular ultra-sound. when i had my 3-D done, they had to shake my belly so that my little jack would get into a position that would give us a clearer picture. but it was totally awesome. he is 5 months now and looks jsut like his 3-d pics, very uncanny!
- i believe it is the same procedure, only thing is, you will see your babys face as it really looks. that is so cool.
- I just had one and yes they are the same thing just in 3D and they are realy cool to you see everything lol you do everything the same as you would a regulare one just in 3D form
- same procedure u dont see just the plain old black and white skeleton u see on a reg ultrasound u actually can see what your baby will look like instead of eye sockets u see the real skin and eyes etc my daughter had it done and its amazing but sorta freaky i knew exactly what my grandson would look like and my daughter has both the ultrasound pic and his newborn pic framed side by side its just absolutely incredible
- My sister-in-law got a fantastic ultrasound picture of my niece's face with the newer technology. I seems like the same procedure, just more detail. Many mother's seem to enjoy the results!
- well initially I was gonna just scream out HELL YEAH! cuz I thought u just wanted to know if u should have one. and you are and you are lucky and good luck on the beautiful pictures you will receive. My daughter (or me I should say) had just the regular, but she was looking dead on at the little thingly majiggy in the picture, the last one taken, like, fine, I am woke now, what do you want?! They can see u know? They have 4d now too!
- i had one done during my pregnancy and they perform it the same way as a regular one they just have more advanced equipment. the place i went to was wonderful! you could invite people to come watch and they had big couches and numerous tv's in the room as well as a big projection screen television to watch it on. they also recorded it and sent me home with the dvd of it and they set it to nursery rhyme background music. and they also paid for a year's subscription to parenting magazine. i hope you have as wonderful of an experience as i did and for all that great stuff it was still very reasonably priced! good luck and congrats :)
- Being male, I've never had one, but I've worked at hospitals (computer programmer) and have seen and heard them (some sound like Star Trek phasers set on "pulse"!). Now, I don't want to worry anyone, and I have absolutely no scientific evidence to back me up, but, as long as you're asking (and at the risk of getting lots of negative ratings, which would be totally unfair, because I'm only saying what I know), the only odd thing about ultrasounds that I've seen with friends who have had them (and they ALL talk their heads off about the device and the you've-seen-one-you've-seen-them-all ultrasound picture!), is that ALL have had kids with some kind of "deformity". Out of about a dozen or so who I personally know have had it, ALL the kids had *something* wrong with them immediately upon birth, ranging from odd, dry, white, scaly patches all over their newborn's skin up to one being born with a club foot (of all of these "maladies", only the club foot was permanent). Nobody has had any explanation for this (at least, not to my satisfaction!), and, to the best of my knowledge, there has been no study on this phenomenon (if, indeed, it may be considered such, and is not merely a wild coincidence), but, given this result, if I had the slightest bit of doubt (which I do!), I would try to talk my wife, or sister, or whomever, out of it (which I have, on all but one person's deaf ears!). But, everybody insists on seeing the baby before it's born, even though there is no evidence that an ultrasound can do any good (in a way, it's like getting your car's emissions tested: only 5% or so of all vehicles on the road in the US are out of tune and have either visible or invisible emissions; likewise, how many babies had a problem that an ultrasound found that could be corrected? Guess what? No statistics are kept on that, either!). Of course, the only other thing my friends had in common was that they knew me, but, hopefully, I had nothing to do with it! ;) Seriously, though, except for the picture, what's the real point of having an ultrasound? IMHO, it's just another gimmick to take your money and surgically transfer it into doctors' and hospitals' pockets! The link below gives great details in layman's terms, and even presents very detailed risks and potential side effects (none of which match the ones I listed above, BTW). Again, please don't panic about the above; it could very well be just an incredible coincidence that has crossed my life!
