3d Ultrasound at 21 weeks - How accurate is the gender?
My wife is having a 3-d ultrasound done on Tuesday. We are both very excited. How accurate will the gender determination be? Will I see anything if we want to wait on the gender? What should I "secretly" look for if I want to peek?

- They wont look between the legs if you tell them you dont want to know. They are very accurate at 21 weeks.
- oh wow, you will definitely be able to tell i had my 3D done at 18 weeks, 3 days and the tech was POSTIVE it was a boy. You could see his little goods very clear on the 3D. It was so amazing just to see him moving around in there! You will love it!!!!! Good luck
- Very accurate. It;s so amazing to see the little one in such detail! :) If you want to wait just tell the technician not to tell you. I don't think it is completely obvious... I never would have noticed my son's pee-pee without her help. She just pointed out the little baby booty and right above it was something just slightly sticking out.
- We had a 3 d cono done at 16 weeks and we saw my son's little wee wee clear and day but we asked the tech to look.
- Very- its not just the penis or lack of one they see, they can see inner sexual organs developing for a girl- this is providing the little one is in the right position to see. They will always say its not 100%- partly cause its kinda true- but mostly to protect themselves from being sue'd if they are wrong.
- Anytime after 15 weeks should be accurate. If the doctor know you don't want to know they will not go near that area. Some go there while asking.
- They are very accurate.. They are not going to show you if you do not want to know..lol
- It depends on what position your baby is in, and if your wife is "ultrasound friendly" or not. Babies in the breech position and facing towards mommy's spine are the hardest to determine gender. Especially if the placenta is anterior. Also, if the mother is "large" that can make it hard to see. I have scanned 200#+ mothers and sometimes we can hardly see the baby itself, let alone what gender it was. Good luck with your scan!!
