Is it "the norm" to have a 3D ultrasound now?
I have known two or three ladies that have recently had babies or are almost due... they have had 3D ultrasounds done... I was just wondering if it's normal for them to do the 3D ultrasounds these days or if just depends entirely on the doctor or what? Anybody know? Also, is anyone by chance living in the Gainesville, GA area and going to The Longstreet Clinic - did you have a 3D ultrasound there? Thanks ladies!

- I've heard that you have to pay out of pocket or the 3D ultrasounds. But I'm not sure. I would love to have one.
- I think it depends on the doctor and his equipment. My doctor does a 3D every time we go in and our insurance pays for it. Call your clinic and see if they offer it.
- i had a baby in october and did not have a 3-d scan
- 3D ultrasound is not the norm and my insurance would not pay for it.
- It's the norm in the US, but only for social reasons, not medical. I think OBGYNs however have begun to feel pressure in competing for business, so ones that have 3D/4D ultrasound machines in their office might look more attractive to prospective parent 'customers.' It isn't the norm in countries with nationalised healthcare.
- well when i was pregnant with my son i had a 3d ultrasound done at about 41/2-5 months some where around there and i had Medicaid i didnt have to pay for any thing
- 3-d ultra sound is nothing that is required, in fact in a lot of places the doctor is not going to recommend it because it is not required, I think they are cool for the mothers however. I dont have a hospital that will do that, but rather I can go to a mall and pay about 150 to get one done. Which I might end up doing since my ultrasound didnt give me any answers on what I'm having, and I really want to know.
- It depends on the doctor and what is available to be used. It's not the norm, but is becoming more common I think. However, unless it is requested by the doctor for something diagnostic your insurance most likely will NOT pay for it at all, or only for a small percentage. Even if your doctor requested it, your insurance might not pay. I would check out that piece first unless you have to have one for some reason. I believe that they can be pretty pricey.
- I live in alabama..but my doctor does 4d US...its wonderful! she will do a regular and then switch the macine over to 4d most places you do have to pay for it..but i would think its worth it. you can get it recorded on dvd you will have that for the rest of your life..you know how cool it would be if my mom had one done and i got to see an US of me as a baby(im21now)! great investment and well worth it! good luck and congrats!♥
- 3D ultrasounds are not a requirement at all, and insurance does not cover them. They are completely optional, and depending on if you have the funds to pay for them, completely worth it! (I think) Where I live it (Illinois) at my doctors office it is $250 (they only have one package, some places have different options) Look into it and if you have the money, I'd say go for it!
- I live about 45 mintues from gainesville. I use Heritage Ob/Gyn in Gainesville. They are great. I just had a lot of testing done and they use the 4D. Other than for testing you have to pay for the 3D/4D scan.
- I heard its not safe to have so many ultrasounds...
- Most health insurance won't cover 3D unless there is a specific medical reason for needing one. And they're really expensive, so unless you have the money to pay out of pocket, don't worry about it.
- My wife and I paid out of pocket once each trimester to see our baby, but it waas worth it. We've been so excited we've started our own business in South Florida doing just that. If you want to see some images see our site www.babyface4d.net
- It is at my doctor's office. They give it to you with every ultrasound without any extra charge.
- i think it depends on the doc. my first pregnancy 2 years ago, i didn't have the option with my doc. if i wanted one i had to pay out of pocket. with this pregnancy, i get one that my insurance covers cause my doc requires them. so good luck.
