How can I speed up the Rendering time in 3D Studio Max 8 or 9?

I'm making an animation in 3D Studio Max 8. How can I get this 12 second animation to render well in a shorter time period? (Can take up to 6 hours)

  1. That is quite long. Make sure that every other program is not running for one. Video renders largely in your video card, frame by frame. So you may want to invest in a stronger card, or add more RAM. Either way it's a lenghty process, rendering any video is always slow and frame by frame. You should be able to export a test render of lower quality as well. If you are waiting 6 hours just to see your video I would recommend a test. At least then you know you won't be waiting for nothing.
  2. if I were you I would use Lightwave , (its rendering engine is one of the fastest in the market today) Try it out and you will like it, I hope CHEERZ
  3. 1. Smaller screen size 2. Simpler backgrounds. These type of animation programs don't have to repeat operations on sections of the screens that don't change. If the background is a single color, and "static" in regards to moving object or camera angles, then the rendering algorithims only record and render changes from one frame to the next. Also, as the renering application "scans" from one side of the screen to the next, if a pixel is the same color as an adjacent pixel, the software takes less time to recognize the transition and can save a LOT of time in rendering.
